The Location

Gozo and Malta have a variety of dive sites to suit all levels of experience and interest. You can explore wrecks, caves, reefs, walls and tunnels, and encounter a diverse marine life, including octopuses, seahorses, barracudas, groupers and more. Some of the most popular dive sites in Malta are:

The Blue Hole

This is a natural rock formation that creates a circular opening in the sea floor, leading to a large cavern with an archway. The Blue Hole is located near the Azure Window, a famous landmark that collapsed in 2017. The Blue Hole is suitable for beginners and advanced divers alike, and offers stunning views of the underwater scenery.

The Um El Faroud

This is a 115-metre long oil tanker that was scuttled in 1998 to create an artificial reef. The Um El Faroud lies at a depth of 25 to 36 metres, and is home to many fish and corals. The wreck is well preserved and allows divers to penetrate its interior and explore its rooms and machinery.

The Santa Maria Caves

This is a series of caves and tunnels that are located on the north side of Comino, a small island between Malta and Gozo. The Santa Maria Caves are ideal for beginners and photographers, as they offer easy access and plenty of light. The caves are inhabited by various creatures, such as crabs, lobsters, moray eels and nudibranchs.

These are just some examples of the amazing dive sites that Malta has to offer. There are many more to discover and enjoy, depending on your preferences and skills.

Becoming a PADI Instructor is fun and exciting. Malta has a mild climate all year round, with water temperatures ranging from 15°C in winter to 28°C in summer. The visibility is usually excellent, reaching up to 40 metres or more. The costs are competitive, and you can find accommodation and transportation options for every budget.

The Training

Classroom teaching take place at the Dive Centre in a well ventilated area which is bright and airy. Students often remark how perfect this Dive Centre is set up for teaching. Confined and Open Water is accessed at Marsalforn Bay directly outside the Dive Centre.

“David conducted my IDC earlier this month and it was an awesome experience! I was totally impressed by his mentorship skills and how he enabled us as candidates to learn everything we needed in order to pass our Instructor Exam (IE) with excellent scores, and more importantly to become effective PADI scuba instructors. David has very high standards for his candidates during the IDC, which means that they find the IE relatively easy! What I can say for certain is that anyone wishing to become an instructor would do very well to start their training with him. Thanks Dave!”

Frequently asked questions

What is the PADI IDC?

The PADI Instructor Development Course is a course that teaches you how to become a PADI SCUBA Instructor. The course teach you the complete PADI training system and is taught by a PADI Course Director. On successful compilation you will need to a PADI Instructor Exam and then you will be an OPEN Water SCUBA Instructor and able to teach diving anywhere in the world. You need to be a PADI Divemaster or equivalent qualification from another training agency so enroll on the course.

What is the PADI Instructor Exam?

The PADI Instructor Exam is a 2 day assessment of your teaching skills that you need to pass after successful completion of the PADI Instructor Development Course. The exams consists of confined water and skills evaluations, Written theory and standards exams, classroom teaching presentations and Open Water teaching a Rescue evaluations. Exams are held regularly all around the world.

Where can I take my PADI IDC?

PADI 5 star Instructor Development Centres and PADI 5 Star Career Development Centres are authorised to teach PADI IDCs and the course itself must be conducted by a PADI Course Director. A list of all centres authorised to teach PADI IDCs can be found on padi.com

Is the IDC difficult?

It's not easy and neither should it be but how hard it is depends on you and everyone is different. People learn in different ways and I adjust my teaching to suit individuals. I promise I will try my hardest to make you the best instructor you can be.

How long is your IDC?

My IDC's are 7 days and are planned directly before the local PADI Instructor Exam.

Why is your IDC 7 days? I see some others are longer?

I have found that 7 days is the right amount of time to learn the IDC, less than this is too quick and longer just puts more pressure on candidates and leads to excess tiredness and stress. Getting the amount of time correct is important and that's why my pass rate is so high.

Do you guarantee to pass the IDC with you?

No, that is not a promise anyone can make. I do promise to work as hard as possible with each candidate until they are ready. In almost all cases this is in 7 days and you will pass the IDC. However I will not send candidates to the PADI IE if they are not fully prepared mentally and physically. I will be completely honest with you about this.

What happens if I am not ready for the IE after the IDC?

I will discuss this with you personally and in the rare cases this happens I promise to continue to work with you at another IDC until you are ready and I will continue to do this for as long as it takes at no extra cost.
